This is the first challenge as part of the Iron Hack prework for the UX/UI design Bootcamp.

Intro

UrbanGO is a public transit and mapping startup based in Silicon Valley. The mobile app UrbanGO allow users to find the cheapest and quickest routes for both public and private transportation. The app already provide the users, route schedules and cost of transport services.

Problem

Public transport users feel like the process of buying a ticket to go from point A to point B can become very stressful, either because of the vending machines being broken or the long queues to buy a ticket.

How can we solve this issue?

Create a new feature for the app, that allow users to buy tickets to avoid purchasing different public transport tickets from different channel and make this task less frustrating for the users.

To solve this problem, I will be using the Design Thinking Approach.

Empathize

Interview

I decided to Interview five people that use the public transport regularly to try to identify the issues and come up with solutions to those difficulties.

The main problems that I hear about were:

  • Buying a new card for every travel is annoying for the passenger.
  • Passengers are tires of waiting long lines just to buy a ticket.
  • Most vending machines just have the option to pay in bills.

Define

The main problem seems to be related to the fact that getting public transport tickets is frustrating for the users. The problem will be solved by providing a prepaid system where you can buy tickets through the app, and you can just present the ticket as a QR code, instead of getting a physical card.

Ideate

After choosing a route from point A to point B, the app will provide the user a route, accompanied by the prices of the transport services, where you can buy prepaid tickets for your trip.

Prototype

Conclusion

During this exercise, I learned that listening and asking good questions during an interview, provide key information to proceed with the Design Thinking process.
